Large, serrated leaves with a unique flavor that is somewhere between basil, mint, and anise. Perilla leaves (kkaennip) are eaten fresh as ssam wraps, pickled as banchan, or added to soups and stews. They are different from Japanese shiso — more robust in flavor.

  • Japanese shiso (very similar)
  • Large basil leaves (different flavor but works as a wrap)
